Seguin's Oldest Organic Farm.  Over 30 Years and Growing Strong!

Organic Scott Family

1976. Clyde and Ellan decided to move back to the country as they had outgrown the space available in their little backyard in New Braunfels.  After a day of searching for land they knew they couldn't afford land without a down payment.  So for one year they saved their money and by year's end they had saved $5,000, which was a fortune in 1976.  Clyde was only making around $10,000 a year then anyways.  The little farm on Old Woehler Road had been recently purchased by the real estate agent who they were with.  He had intended to live on the land himself, but his wife did not want to live in the country.  After looking at several more pieces of property they were standing on a piece of land that had a lot of gullies.  Ellan looked at Clyde and asked him if he wanted to buy it.  He thought she was referring to the piece of land they were currently looking at.  Ellan said, "No! The other piece of property."  That is the day they bought their farm on Old Woehler Road.

Organic Sand.  We found land in the Seguin area, that met Clyde's requirements for growing vegetables.  The land around New Braunfels and Marion was of the thick black clay and was not suitable to all vegetable they wanted to grow.  The farm on Old Woehler Road was originally a cotton and grain farm that had been stripped of its natural fertility from years of commercial farming.  It was sandier in consistency and with the help of large amounts of compost and Organic fertilizers they have been able to raise almost every vegetable they wanted.
